DETAILS
Meet your private guide and driver at your hotel and sitting in a comfortable vehicle departure to visit one of the most beautiful small Italian towns of historical interest: Locorotondo. Its very name (“round place”) suggests the characteristic circular form of the town’s historic center. Rising above the center’s expanse of pure white houses, are the bell towers of the town’s many churches.
The tour proceeds with a visit at a local dairy cheese farm, “Caseificio”, where you will take part in the handmade production and you will taste local cheese and cold cuts tasting.
Free time for lunch and in the afternoon you can enjoy a thrilling walking tour in Martina Franca, Pearl of the Apulian Baroque. Its name is derived in part from its devotion to Saint Martin, who saved the townspeople from enemy invasions, and in part from the time when Philip of Anjou offered the local inhabitants a tax exemption (“franchigia” in Italian). The town is a melting pot of history and art. Highlights of the historic center include the characteristic white houses that wind their way up the small, twisting streets, and the sumptuous baroque architecture of the Ducal Palace, Palazzo Martucci, Palazzo dell’Università, Palazzo Motolese, Palazzo Maggi, and Palazzo Ancona. The important Basilica of San Martino, with sculptures by Stefano da Putignano and Giuseppe Sammartino, is also inside the town’s medieval walls.
A stop at a typical Cafè to enjoy the famous “Pasticciotto” filled with ricotta cheese and pears!
The tour finish with a visit at one of the best local vinery and local crops wine tasting.
